WASHINGTON — (WMAL) White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer addressed the alleged Rockville High School rape of a 14-year-old girl by two illegal immigrant students at his daily press briefing Tuesday.

“This is a tragic event that no child, no person, no parent should ever have  do deal with,” Spicer said. “School should be a place where a parent puts their child on a bus or drops them off or sees them off and know that they are safe.”

Spicer tells Fox 5 reporter Ronica Cleary that while the President understands that schools are run locally and by the state, there is cause for concern and “the city should look at its policies.”

Spicer said there are many outstanding questions in this case, such as why an 18-year-old was a freshman.

Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal said that “it was a tragedy was occurred to this young women.”

When asked about the impact of county’s policy toward illegal immigrants on this case Leventhal said “the policy toward criminals  is that law enforcement should operate swiftly and effectively.”

Council President Roger Berliner said that one of the two individuals that was apprehended was stopped by ICE in Texas, and that it was not the County’s responsibility to ask about his status.

“This is not on us,” Berliner said.

Councilmember Sydney Katz said that this is a “horrible offense, regardless of how long someone has lived here.”
