WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Hours before the House Intelligence Committee opens its investigation into possible tampering of the 2016 election by the Russian government, President Donald Trump offered up his assessment of the validity of the probe in a series of tweets.

The President pointed out that James Clapper, a Trump critic and National Intelligence Director under former President Barack Obama, has noted, among others, that he’s seen no sign of collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.

The President went on to blame the ongoing Russia connection storyline on Democrats as a means of dodging blame for his victory in November, and claimed that the story Congress and the FBI should be investigating is the leaking of classified information.

FBI Director James Comey and National Security Agency Director Michael Rogers will be among those testifying before the House panel at a 10 am hearing Monday. Aside from the Russia storyline, President Trump’s accusations of illegal wiretapping by the Obama Administration is also expected to be a major subject at the hearing.
