ROCKVILLE, MD — (WMAL) A house was leveled early Friday morning in a fire and explosion at a house in the Randolph Hills neighborhood of Rockville.
The explosion in the 11000 block of Ashley Drive left the house in splinters.
“The home was essentially leveled. There was a large debris field throughout at neighboring homes, and there was some collateral damage,” said Montgomery County fire spokesman Pete Piringer.
No one was injured in those other homes, but firefighters could not immediately determine the status of the occupants of the home that blew up.
The fire that resulted from the initial explosion was put out quickly once firefighters arrived.
Pepco and Washington Gas crews were at the scene to safeguard the utilities. Investigators have not yet determined a cause of the explosion.
