He may have come in dead last by a mile in the race for the 2016 Democrat Party nomination for President, but Martin O’Malley has not given up the dream.
POLITICO reports the former Maryland Governor’s PAC has commissioned a poll in Iowa ahead of a possible run fo rthe nomination again in 2020.
The other eight Democrats in the hypothetical field included New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker; former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro; New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo; Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Kamala Harris of California and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota; Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg; and Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.
Of that group, O’Malley came in first with 18 percent of the caucus goers, followed by Booker, with 17 percent and Klobuchar, with 11 percent. No one else finished in double digits. ,
Not to rain on O’Malley’s parade, but “Not Sure” drew 32 percent of the vote, and the field did not include potential heavyweights including Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.
O’Malley did top the poll’s favorability ratings as well, at 47 percent, against 12 percent unfavorable ratings.
But what was it longtime baseball manager Leo Durocher said? Nice Guys finish last?
