5am – A/B MICHAEL FLYNN NEWS:
- Trump blasts ‘criminal’ leaks by intelligence agencies, calls Flynn a ‘wonderful man’: (reuters) — U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday assailed what he said were illegal and “criminal” leaks from U.S. intelligence agencies in the controversy over contacts with Russian officials that forced his national security adviser Michael Flynn to resign. Speaking at a joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump called Flynn a “wonderful man” and added: “I think it’s very, very unfair what’s happened to General Flynn, the way he was treated, and the documents and papers that were illegally, I stress that, illegally leaked.”
- Trump’s new national security adviser pick a 180-degree turn from Flynn. (The Hill) — President Trump has asked a widely respected career naval officer to replace Michael Flynn, a choice that appears designed to soothe growing anxiety about turmoil on his national security team. It was not immediately clear whether Vice Admiral Robert Harward, who served on the National Security Council (NSC) under President George W. Bush, has accepted the position of national security adviser, according to multiple reports.

- REPORT: Intel Officials Are Withholding Sensitive Information from Trump. (Mediaite) — A new report in The Wall Street Journal tonight says that U.S. intelligence officials have “withheld” information from President Trump. “U.S. intelligence officials have withheld sensitive intelligence from President Donald Trump because they are concerned it could be leaked or compromised, according to current and former officials familiar with the matter… In some of these cases of withheld information, officials have decided not to show Mr. Trump the sources and methods that the intelligence agencies use to collect information, the current and former officials said. Those sources and methods could include, for instance, the means that an agency uses to spy on a foreign government. There has been a lot of reported tension between Trump and many in the intel community, and the president himself has repeatedly slammed the leaks to the press this week. One White House official told WSJ, “There is nothing that leads us to believe that this is an accurate account of what is actually happening.” The anonymous officials who spoke to the paper made it clear Trump has not been kept from “crucial information about security threats or potential plotting,
5am – C Puzder Withdraws:
- Andrew Puzder Withdraws From Consideration as Labor Secretary. WASHINGTON — The fast-food executive Andrew F. Puzder withdrew his nomination to be labor secretary on Wednesday as Republican senators turned sharply against him, the latest defeat for a White House besieged by infighting and struggling for traction even with a Republican-controlled Congress. The toppling of one of President Trump’s cabinet picks was a victory for Democrats, unions and liberal groups that had been attacking Mr. Puzder’s business record and his character since he was chosen in December. Conservative publications, including National Review and Breitbart, had also expressed resistance, zeroing in on Mr. Puzder’s employment of an undocumented immigrant as his housekeeper. And records from his 1988 divorce, disseminated Tuesday night by opponents, resurfaced spousal abuse accusations that made some Republican senators uncomfortable. His ex-wife had recanted those accusations, but senators from both parties privately screened a videotape from “The Oprah Winfrey Show” that featured her laying out the charges while in disguise. In a statement, Mr. Puzder thanked the president and those who supported him for their optimism about the “policies and new thinking” he would have brought to the job.

5am – E Arlington says ‘no thanks’ to Georgetown-Rosslyn gondola. A proposed gondola connecting Georgetown and Rosslyn across the Potomac River won’t be funded with money from Arlington because other transportation projects, such as Metro and Columbia Pike transit, take priority, the Arlington County Board said. “Given our identified and pressing transportation needs, along with some ongoing concerns about the long-term value of the gondola, the Board is not in favor of any further funding of the gondola project,” the board’s chairman, Jay Fisette (D), said in a letter to the gondola study committee. But the project — which has been touted by the Georgetown Business Improvement District, among others, as a cheaper way to get mass transit access between the two booming neighborhoods — is far from dead, Joe Sternlieb, president of the Georgetown BID, said.
6am – A/B/C Grocer faces boycott over Trump wines. ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets is the latest retailer to face political pressure for carrying products connected to President Donald Trump. The Gates-based grocer is being called on to remove Trump Winery products from its Virginia stores, where it sells 237 different wines from 58 wineries in that state. The Stop Trump Wine group has asked Virginians to boycott grocers, retailers, restaurants and other organizations doing business with Trump Winery. “Events during Donald Trump’s campaign made it clear that Eric Trump, the president of Trump Winery in Charlottesville, Virginia, shares the views of his father,” according to the group’s website. “Let’s demonstrate through economic action that the residents and businesses of Charlottesville will not stand for the hatred espoused by Eric Trump and those like him.” Wegmans has been selling bottles from the Charlottesville winery since 2008, when it was operated by Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyard.

An American Eagle jet landed safely at Charlotte Douglas International Airport after hitting a deer on takeoff Wednesday afternoon. The American Eagle plane was headed to Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport in Mississippi with 44 passengers and four crew members aboard, American spokeswoman Katie Cody said.
