Dr. Sebastian Gorka on Russia: No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy

Tuesday afternoon, Larry O’Connor opened the WMAL phone lines allowing listeners to ask national security questions to President Trump’s Deputy Adviser and Counterterrorism Expert Dr. Sebastian Gorka.

O’Connor began the interview by asking about President Trump’s temporary immigration ban:

O’Connor: What danger are we in with these countries being on notice that this is their shot to get in? You know what I mean?

Gorka: Well I think the example of Europe is the most disturbing one here. We know that the enemy has said they are going to use refugee streams, are going to use immigrant streams to take out on our own soil. We know that at least one of the European attacks involved an ISIS jihadi who was traveling on a fortified Syrian passport, who had acquired a refugee or a asylum status. That’s exactly the kind of scenario that the President’s executive order is assigned to prevent.

Bob in Hyattsville followed up with a suggestion for building the wall along the Mexico’s border:

Bob: I was wondering if you would consider sharing with Secretary Kelly and the President an idea I’ve got, that I think makes the most sense for building the wall. And that would be to use the Navy Seabees. Can certainly build it and they’ve got all the equipment, we already pay them, they are already on the pay roll. And they have the man power, they have the expertise and it would make a lot more sense than hiring an outside contractor.

Gorka: I’m intrigued. I’m intrigued. I saw General Kelly we had a long chat last week hopefully I’ll bump into him soon and suggest your idea. But listen General Kelly is a former Marine. Marines, whoever they are going to use will get the mission done, so I’m not worried about that but it’s an intriguing question. The national security implications are huge. If somebody thinks we don’t need a wall I always ask them, ‘when you go to bed at night, do you lock your front door’? If you lock your front door, we need a wall. It’s that simple.

Scott from the District proposed President Trump look to history to for advice about Russia:

Scott: What if we instead, the President announced that we were going to build 100 containers to ship oil and natural gas over to the EU cause Russia is straggling for influence in this country, you know France and all those countries. That if we could get into an oil and natural gas raid, and actually people started buying from them it would bankrupt them once again. What do you think about that idea?

O’Connor: Interesting.

Gorka: [sigh] I’m going to quote the President directly here. So the President said in his press conference a few weeks ago, the one he held in Trump Towers, he was asked about relations with Russia and he gave a very blunt reply. He said, ‘I would like to work with Vladimir Putin if that’s possible. I’m not sure it is and if it isn’t so be it’. But the President has said time and time again, ‘we are not interested in making new enemies’. The fact is it’s not just about economic bankruptcy. Remember the Cold War was won against the Soviet Union. Not simply because of Star Wars and SDI but because we had an incredible leader in Ronald Reagan, a partner in Margaret Thatcher and the blessed Saint John Paul II, who did what? Destroy the enemies narrative, the ideology of communism and that’s what we’re trying to do today with ISIS. We’ve got to defeat those people who are an eminent threat to us. The President said it in his inauguration address, he said ‘we are going to eradicate ISIS’ but at the same time we are not interested in making new enemies. As the Marines say, ‘no better friend, no worse enemy’.
