WASHINGTON — (WMAL) About 40 housekeepers and other workers at the Trump International Hotel Washington DC voted to join one of America’s leading worker’s unions last week, which could mean for messy fights between employees and the President’s company over labor disputes.

The union, Unite Here Local 25, represents 6,500 hospitality workers across Washington.

Its affiliate in Nevada won a dispute with Trump’s Las Vegas hotel in December. After a months-long fight, Trump’s company agreed to offer more benefits to the hotel’s employees.

In January, members of the union marched in the Women’s March in Las Vegas and said in a statement that they “will fight and ensure that all people who make this country great have a seat at the table.”

John Boardman, executive secretary and treasurer of Unite Here in DC told the Washington Post that the local union hopes to get pension plan increases and raises for workers, as well as increase housekeepers and dishwasher’s salaries to $52,000.

Trump will be able to appoint the new heads of the National Labor Relations Board, which rules on labor issues like that in Nevada.

About 80 bartenders and servers in DC are planning to join the union in coming months as well.
