In a decision announced last week, 22 additional employees are being laid off from the Clinton Global Initiative – known for its annual glitzy gathering of high-powered leaders and celebs. The layoffs are tied to a decision to shutter CGI that originally was announced in an Aug. 22 letter from former President Bill Clinton. The bill has enough votes to pass, but Montgomery County Executive Isiah “Ike” Leggett has indicated he may veto the measure if it is approved. The Washington Post reports five council members are in favor of the bill, while four others are hoping to delay a vote and instead study the effects of recent minimum wage hikes in the county as well as possible effects of further increases. While some made their decision in previous weeks, several more have now come forward, citing the president-elect’s perceived insult of Rep. John Lewis as the final straw. Trump lashed out at the civil rights icon after Lewis said he didn’t view Trump as “a legitimate president.” Lewis, a Georgia Democrat who protested alongside the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., also said he would not attend the inauguration.

- FBI arrests wife of Orlando nightclub massacre gunman Omar Mateen. The FBI on Monday arrested the wife of the gunman in the Pulse Nightclub massacre on charges connected to the shooting rampage, investigators confirmed to Fox News. The June 2016 shooting, seen as the deadliest in modern U.S. history, killed 49 people and wounded dozens more. Police shot and killed gunman Omar Mateen after a three-hour standoff, during which he pledged allegiance to the Islamic State terror group. The charges against his wife, 30-year-old Noor Salman, included aiding and abetting his attempts to support ISIS, as well as obstruction of justice. According to a source close to the investigation, the U.S. Attorney in Florida and attorneys within the Dept. of Justice, the agencies, which jointly prosecute terrorism cases, wanted to charge Salman with directly supporting ISIS, in addition to aiding the terror network through her husband. However, Acting Assistant Attorney General Mary McCord refused to support additional charges. FBI agents from the bureau’s San Francisco field office picked up Salman outside her home in Rodeo, Calif., law enforcement sources said. She did not resist the arrest.
- Turkey says New Year’s nightclub attacker captured in Istanbul. Turkish police have captured the gunman who killed 39 people in an Istanbul nightclub on New Year’s Day at a hideout in an outlying suburb of the city after a two-week manhunt, officials said on Tuesday. Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin named the man as Abdulgadir Masharipov and said he was born in 1983 in Uzbekistan and received training in Afghanistan. Masharipov, who was captured with four others overnight, had admitted his guilt and his fingerprints matched those at the scene, Sahin said. “He knew four languages and was well-educated,” Sahin told a news conference. There were strong indications he entered Turkey illegally through its eastern borders in January 2016 and it was clear the attack was carried out on behalf of Islamic State, Sahin said. The jihadist group claimed responsibility a day after the mass shooting, saying it was revenge for Turkish military involvement in Syria.

They’re on the run, and I say we keep them on the run by calling in some ground support.”
