Drivers have been asked and advised to avoid Interstate 495 at all costs if possible. The roadway could continue to be closed for a long period of time, it is unclear how long it will take to reopen it. The crash is on the Beltway between the Cabin John Parkway and the American Legion Bridge.
Several trucks have responded and hazmat crews are helping emergency personnel at the scene of the accident. A truck is on top of two cars and another truck is leaking fuel, according to Pete Piringer, a spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire Department.
