MARYLAND — (WMAL) An Ellicott City man was arrested for criminal threats Tuesday after he told passengers aboard a Southwest Airlines flight that he was going to blow up the plane.

The Baltimore bound plane just departed from its gate and was still taxiing at the Oakland International Airport when Arpan Shah, 32, began speaking with passengers about taking the plane down.

Deputies then told the pilot what Shah was saying, and the pilot turned the plane around and landed back at the gate.

The passengers and baggage were removed from the plane and an explosive detection team searched the aircraft.

After the passengers and their baggage were re-screened, they were given the OK to board the plane again and they departed and landed safety.

Shah was booked into Alameda County- Glenn Dyer Jail in Oakland, California.
