5am – A/B/C   Vandalism and Protests: Who Should Do Something About Them: Trump, Obama and/or Hillary?

• Donald Trump to supporters harassing minorities: “Stop it.” Washington (CNN) Donald Trump on Sunday told his supporters to stop harassing minorities, in his first televised sit-down interview since becoming President-elect. “I am so saddened to hear that,” Trump told CBS’ Lesley Stahl on “60 Minutes” when she said Latinos and Muslims are facing harassment. “And I say, ‘Stop it.’ If it — if it helps, I will say this, and I will say right to the cameras: ‘Stop it.'”
• Churches vandalized with Trump-inspired slurs. (USA Today) — INDIANAPOLIS — St. David’s Episcopal Church in Bean Blossom was vandalized sometime Saturday night. Vandals painted tags on the walls, depicting a swastika, an anti-gay slur and “Heil Trump.” And in Silver Spring, , a sign advertising the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour’s Spanish-language service also was vandalized Saturday night, according to the communications team at the church. The sign was cut in several different places and the words “Trump nation. Whites only.” were written on the back and on the wall of the parish’s memorial garden. Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde of Episcopal Diocese of Washington gathered with church members and priests to stand in solidarity at the church in the wake of this incident. In Indiana, the Rev. Kelsey Hutto, priest in charge at St. David’s Episcopal Church, said she was disheartened after finding the graffiti on the walls of the church Sunday morning. But her next thought was more positive.
• Kellyanne Conway: It’s up to Clinton, Obama to calm anti-Trump protesters. Kellyanne Conway, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, said it is incumbent upon Hillary Clinton, President Obama and other Democratic leaders to calm their supporters and encourage a peaceful transition of power amid anti-Trump demonstrations that have swept S. cities since Election Day. Trump is “there for them. And he is going to be a president that listens and takes the counsel of many different people, including those from the other side of the aisle,” Conway told Chuck Todd on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday. ” . . . It’s time really for President Obama and Secretary Clinton to say to these protesters, ‘This man is our president.’”

5am – D         ’60 Minutes:’ Trump Addresses Deportations, Border Wall, Reports Of Actions By Supporters. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — President-elect Donald Trump said on “60 Minutes” Sunday that he would be willing to keep some provisions of Obamacare, and said he would focus on people with criminal records when it came to deportation. Trump spoke with Lesley Stahl at Trump Tower in the interview that aired Sunday evening. He also said he remained committed to building a wall on the Mexican border. Stahl asked Trump if he planned to deport “millions and millions” of undocumented immigrants. “What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, we have a lot of these people, probably 2 million, it could be even 3 million, we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate,” Trump said. Trump said once “the border is secured,” a determination would be made about other undocumented immigrants in the U.S. – whom he called “terrific people.” Trump also said while he still plans to build a wall, he would accept a fence for some areas. “For certain areas I would, but certain areas, a wall is more appropriate,” Trump said. “I’m very good at this, it’s called construction.”

5am – E         Researchers have found a surprisingly powerful effect of sleeping more. (Washington Post) — We all know sleep matters for job performance. After a week of vacation, you may find your work better than ever. But rack up a week of sleepless nights — say, following a polarizing presidential election — and you may find yourself struggling. It wouldn’t surprise anyone that sleep affects attention, memory and cognition — important factors in the workplace. But striking new research suggests the effect of additional sleep has a high monetary value. A paper — from Matthew Gibson of Williams College and Jeffrey Shrader of the University of California at San Diego, based on data from Jawbone, the fitness- and sleep-tracker company — says that additional time sleeping can translate into thousands of dollars in wages. In fact, they calculate that a one-hour increase in weekly sleep raises wages by about half as much as an additional year of education. Now, the story is not so simple. Don’t think you can start to sleep more and you will instantly make more money. It’s more about the subtle interplay between how people schedule their lives, how much time they have available to sleep and how that affects worker performance and, ultimately, earnings. To investigate how sleep affects worker wages, the researchers took advantage of a kind of natural experiment — sunset times across American time zones. Past research shows that people naturally end up sleeping longer when the sun sets earlier, for example in the winter, even if the person goes to bed well after dark.  When the sun sets an hour later, it reduces nighttime sleep by roughly 20 minutes per week.

6am – E         Katy Perry Leads By Example And Donates $10,000 To Planned Parenthood. (Huffington Post) — That nightmare you had is real. Donald Trump is now president-elect and Hillary Clinton has been hiking with her dog somewhere in upstate New York. Many are afraid of what Trump’s presidency holds for America’s future and committed more than ever to protecting the rights of those acutely affected by the antediluvian promises of his campaign.  One of Clinton’s most prominent supporters, pop star Katy Perry, has decided to put her money where her mouth is and double down on her efforts to ensure that women continue to have access to safe and affordable healthcare.  On Friday, Perry donated $10,000 to Planned Parenthood, which Trump pledged to defund among other women’s reproductive health services groups in his campaign. In a lengthy note on Instagram, the singer explained the role Planned Parenthood has played in her own life, and how vital the organization is to so many woman across America.

• Hillary Clinton cast blame for her election loss on James Comey’s decision to revive an email inquiry. Hillary Clinton on Saturday cast blame for her surprise election loss on the announcement by the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, days before the election that he had revived the inquiry into her use of a private email server. In her most extensive remarks since she conceded the race to Donald J. Trump early Wednesday, Mrs. Clinton told donors on a 30-minute conference call that Mr. Comey’s decision to send a letter to Congress about the inquiry 11 days before Election Day had thrust the controversy back into the news and had prevented her from ending the campaign with an optimistic closing argument. “There are lots of reasons why an election like this is not successful,” Mrs. Clinton said, according to a donor who relayed the remarks. But, she added, “our analysis is that Comey’s letter raising doubts that were groundless, baseless, proven to be, stopped our momentum.”

Fourth Quarter: Redskins 26, Vikings 20 / After Minnesota started the fourth quarter with a one-yard gain on a 2nd-and-1 play, the Redskins held firm, holding the Vikings to just three more plays before bring out the punt return unit. Jamison Crowder fair caught a 41-yard punt at the eight-yard line. The Redskins would quickly get out of the shadow of their own end zone, though, as Robert Kelley would pick up 21 yards on first down before Kirk Cousins hit Pierre Garçon and Jamison Crowder for receptions.

7am – E         Sharpton to lead protest in DC ahead of Trump’s inauguration. (Politico) — The Rev. Al Sharpton plans to lead a protest on the grounds of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 14, six days before before Donald Trump’s inauguration. “Saddle up your horse and fight for the future of this country,” Sharpton told a crowd on Saturday in Harlem during his weekly nationally broadcast rally. “You think you’re going to take away our health care? Saddle up your horse. We’re going to fight every step of the way. You better know we’re coming. We ain’t backing down. We lost a round but the fight ain’t over.” Sharpton vowed to “put pressure” on senators who will have to confirm Trump’s cabinet nominees. He also said he has been meeting with members of Congress to create a legislative strategy for Trump’s presidency. “We’re going to pressure the Senate on the Affordable Care [Act],” Sharpton said, referring to Trump’s vow to repeal President Barack Obama’s signature health care law. (Last week Trump told The Wall Street Journal that he would consider keeping some parts of the law.)

8am – B         Kate McKinnon’s Clinton sings ‘Hallelujah’ in emotional SNL open. Instead of showing a quarreling Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump and Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton as they had done for most of the season, the opening for “Saturday Night Live” struck a more somber note. McKinnon, dressed as her Clinton character in a cream pantsuit, played the piano and sang Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” Cohen, the highly-respected artist known for his poetic and lyrical music, died earlier this week. McKinnon sang the entire song to a quiet audience. After finishing the song, she turned to the camera with watery eyes and said: “I’m not giving up. And neither should you. And live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!” The episode followed a tumultuous postelection week that has seen protests in multiple cities nationwide against President-elect Donald Trump. In Saturday’s episode, there were neither Trump jokes nor did Alec Baldwin make an appearance. The show’s more solemn opening struck a chord on Twitter. Film critic Richard Roeper tweeted that McKinnon “is a superhero with the power to stop us in our tracks.”  McKinnon also appeared in the episode as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the show’s “Weekend Update” segment.

8am – C         Trump: No ‘big’ vacations, no salary as president. (USA Today) — Donald Trump is pledging no long vacations and no presidential salary during his time in the White House. “There’s just so much to be done,” Trump told CBS’ 60 Minutes in an interview broadcast Sunday. “So I don’t think we’ll be very big on vacations, no.” As for the president’s $400,000-a-year pay, the New York businessman said: “No, I’m not going to take the salary. I’m not taking it.” Republicans have regularly criticized President Obama for his fondness for playing golf and his family vacations in Hawaii.

• Nigel Farage on Facebook: It was a great honour to spend time with Donald Trump today. He was relaxed, and full of good ideas. I’m confident he will be a good President. His support for the US-UK relationship is very strong. This is a man with whom we can do business.I was especially pleased at his very positive reaction to the idea that Sir Winston Churchill’s bust should be put back in the Oval Office.
• Nigel Farage and Donald Trump have a “very productive” meeting at Trump Tower. (CNN) Nigel Farage met with President-elect Donald Trump in New York on Saturday for what a Trump aide called “a very productive” meeting. Farage, the head of the UK Independence Party and leader of the Brexit movement, was spotted in the lobby of Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue. He yelled out, “We’re just tourists!” when reporters asked what he was doing there. Later that day, Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, said the two met in the President-elect’s residence inside. “I think they enjoy each other’s company, and they actually had a chance to talk about freedom and winning and what this all means for the world,” Conway Farage later posted a picture on Facebook and Twitter of him with Trump, who gives a thumbs-up for the camera. “It was a great honour to spend time with Donald Trump today. He was relaxed, and full of good ideas. I’m confident he will be a good President,” read the caption.
