FAIRFAX – (WMAL) Voters in Fairfax County on Tuesday rejected a separate meals tax to fund education programs in the county.

The tax, which would have added $96 million dollars to the county’s coffers, was defeated by a 56 – 44 percent margin.

The four percent tax was opposed by business owners, who claimed the tax would have been an unfair burden to them and their employees, especially wait staff whose tips could have suffered with a new tax in place.
