• FBI Obtains Warrant Needed to Start Reviewing Emails Found on Laptop Used by Clinton Aide. (ABC News) — Federal investigators looking into the Hillary Clinton email matter have obtained the warrant needed to start reviewing the emails found on a laptop used by Clinton aide Huma Abedin and her husband, Anthony Weiner.  FBI Director James Comey told Congress Friday that the agency was again reviewing emails related to Clinton’s personal server, after it learned of additional information that might be relevant to the case. Comey sent a letter to key members of Congress informing them that although the FBI had previously announced the completion of its investigation into Clinton’s email server, new information had prompted additional review.
• Justice Department Urged FBI Not to Make Clinton Email Development Public. (NBC News) —  The Justice Department opposed the FBI’s plan to notify Congress about the discovery of new emails that could be relevant to the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s email server, according to senior officials familiar with the discussions. FBI Director James Comey concluded, however, that informing Congress was better than waiting until after the election and hoping in the meantime that the fact of the discovery wouldn’t leak. “In the end, we decided it was better to keep Congress informed,” an FBI official involved in the process said Saturday.

• Halloween candy sales sending good economic signals. A number of economic factors are helping the consumer this year, and a new report from IHS Global Insights highlights how the amount expected to be spent on Halloween candy is a perfect symbol of that strength. “Overall, real consumer spending has been relatively strong since last Halloween due to modest consumer price inflation, low gasoline prices, better employment opportunities, and improved household finances,” Chris Christopher, IHS Global Insights’ director of consumer economics points out. In fact, the team expects spending on Halloween candy to experience the strongest increase since 2011, rising 5.5 and hitting $3.8 billion. In 2014 and 2015, spending on Halloween candy was up 5 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively. The report defined spending on Halloween candy as estimated October personal consumption expenditures, seasonally adjusted, on candy and chewing gum.
• Where Americans need the most help carving pumpkins. (Washington Post) – A little more than one-third of Americans told Gallup in 2006 that they “usually” celebrate Halloween by carving a pumpkin. And, if Google search data is to be believed, some of us have a more natural knack for making faces out of orange gourds than others. Consider the map below. It plots the relative volume of searches for the phrase “how to carve a pumpkin” between 2004 and 2016.  According to Google, the states most lacking in this fundamental knowledge are clustered mostly in the South — Kentucky, Louisiana and Mississippi all lead the nation in how-to pumpkin carving searches. North Dakota and Hawaii also stand out as places with a relatively high interest in pumpkin tutorials.
• Hilary Duff is ‘SO sorry’ about her offensive Halloween costume. (USA Today) — It’s that time of year when celebrities apologize for their offensive Halloween costumes. So, who’s immediately regretting her choice of holiday wear this year? That would be Hilary Duff, who attended the Casamigos Halloween Party Friday in Beverly Hills.  The Younger and Lizzie Maguire star went out with her boyfriend, trainer Jason Walsh, dressed as a pilgrim and a Native American. She had on a short black outfit, and he wore a feather headdress and face paint. Twitter didn’t take to kindly to the look that many called “ignorant,” “racist,” and “out of touch,” especially in light of Native American protests against the Dakota Access pipeline.

• Judicial Watch Is Suing The FBI For Records About Bill Clinton’s Secret Meeting With Loretta Lynch. (TownHall) — Government watchdog Judicial Watch has issued a Freedom of Information Act Lawsuit against the FBI demanding the release of documents surrounding the secret July meeting between former President Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch. The meeting took place on Lynch’s private plane at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix and lasted for more than 30 minutes. The lawsuit includes a demand for FBI “302” documents, which are reports of FBI investigation interviews

• Fairfax Democratic Committee Head Calls for School Board Member to Resign Over Trump Tweets. (WMAL) – WASHINGTON – The controversy over the tapes with Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump making, what many believe are offensive, statements about women hit home this week. Sue Langley, head of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee, called for conservative school board member Elizabeth Schultz to resign after Schultz tweeted the Trump tapes don’t matter. “The fact is, if she was a private citizen, I would not care about her political views, but she is not a private citizen. Elizabeth Schultz holds an elected position in Fairfax County – a position that is supposed to be non-partisan,” Langley said in a www.bluevirginia.us article.

• Halloween Hours in DC; Here’s When to Trick or Treat. (Patch) – Halloween is this Monday, and lots of children will be roaming about through area neighborhoods. WASHINGTON, DC — Halloween is almost upon us as trick-or-treaters prepare to descend on area neighborhoods Monday night in D.C. In D.C., there obviously isn’t a set trick-or-treating time — you can simply head out into the neighborhoods whenever you want. However, authorities advise that if you do go out, make sure you stay in neighborhoods that you know and have children accompanied by an adult.  Generally, you should not trick-or-treat past 9 p.m. If you want to go out at dusk, the suns sets a little after 6 p.m. this Monday. The weather forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies Monday night with temperatures in the 50s and a light breeze, as well as a small chance of rain.
