MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — (WMAL) School officials and the Montgomery County Health Department have been working tirelessly to have all seventh, eighth, and ninth graders within the county meet Maryland’s new immunization requirements.
The county Health Department has been notifying parents for at least a year, and has offered vaccination opportunities at high schools, community centers, and local malls.
There were about 4,000 students who were without the proper vaccination documentation at of the start of the school year.
County Health Officer Dr. Ulder J Tillman said that as of Tuesday the county was “down to a total of 22 children who lack documentation, 20 of which are ninth graders who have not appeared in school as of yet.”
Immunization requirements will be needed for tenth graders starting next school year.
