5am – A/B/C Trump camp slams media over ‘out-of-context’ frenzy on PTSD remarks. (Fox News) — The Donald Trump campaign is firing back at the media over a slew of “out-of-context” reports and headlines asserting the Republican nominee took a swipe at veterans suffering from PTSD by suggesting they aren’t “strong” and “can’t handle” the stress of war. Trump technically said those words during remarks to veterans in Herndon, Va., on Monday. But he did so while addressing how to help veterans suffering post-traumatic stress disorder and prevent military suicides. “When you talk about the mental health problems, when people come back from war and combat, and they see things that maybe a lot of the folks in this room have seen many times over – and you’re strong and you can handle it – but a lot of people can’t handle it,” Trump said Monday. He went on to say the country needs more mental health help for veterans and vowed to launch a “very robust” effort. Soon after, BuzzFeed ran a headline that said: “Trump Suggests That Soldiers With PTSD Aren’t ‘Strong.’” Many other outlets followed suit. The New York Daily News declared: “Donald Trump sparks outrage by suggesting vets with PTSD aren’t ‘strong’ and ‘can’t handle it.’”
5am – D INTERVIEW – KEN KLUKOWSKI – Breitbart legal editor
- Supreme Court denies Obama rehearing on US v Texas immigration fight

5am – E FBI agreed to destroy laptops of Clinton aides with immunity deal, lawmaker says. (Fox News) — Immunity deals for two top Hillary Clinton aides included a side arrangement obliging the FBI to destroy their laptops after reviewing the devices, House Judiciary Committee sources told Fox News on Monday. Sources said the arrangement with former Clinton chief of staff Cheryl Mills and ex-campaign staffer Heather Samuelson also limited the search to no later than Jan. 31, 2015. This meant investigators could not review documents for the period after the email server became public — in turn preventing the bureau from discovering if there was any evidence of obstruction of justice, sources said. The Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee fired off a letter Monday to Attorney General Loretta Lynch asking why the DOJ and FBI agreed to the restrictive terms, including that the FBI would destroy the laptops after finishing the search. “Like many things about this case, these new materials raise more questions than answers,” Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., wrote in the letter obtained by Fox News.
6am – A/B/C Do you pick your doctor by their politics? The care you get from your doctor may depend on his or her political views. A new study finds that a doctor’s political views may influence the care he or she provides, especially when it comes to politically sensitive health issues such as abortion, marijuana use and firearm possession. Even in our increasingly partisan society, you might have figured that your doctor’s office would be neutral territory. But that just goes to show how naive you are. A new study from researchers at Yale University details significant differences in the way primary care physicians from across the political spectrum approach medical issues that touch on hot-button topics, such as abortion and gun control. For instance, doctors were more likely to say that they would counsel a patient seeking an abortion to consider the mental health consequences of going through with the procedure if they were registered to vote as Republicans than as Democrats. Likewise, doctors registered as Democrats were more likely to urge patients who owned guns to keep them out of their homes, while doctors registered as Republicans were more likely to ask if the guns were stored safely.
6am – D Bill Clinton Calls Obamacare ‘Crazy System’ While Campaigning In Michigan. (Fox News) – Former president Bill Clinton appeared to take a shot at President Obama’s signature health care legislation during a campaign stop in Michigan on Monday, calling it a “crazy system” that “doesn’t make any sense.” Clinton was in Flint, Michigan for a campaign event for his wife and was on the topic of government-run marketplaces under ObamaCare when he made the remarks, The Daily Caller reported. “It doesn’t make any sense. The insurance model doesn’t work here,” he said.
6am – E Assange: WikiLeaks will publish all US election docs by Nov. 8. WikiLeaks will release documents on the US presidential elections before November 8, the group’s founder, Julian Assange, said in an eagerly anticipated address via videolink at the Volksbuhne Theater in Berlin to mark WikiLeaks’ 10th anniversary. WikiLeaks hopes to be publishing documents “every week for the next 10 weeks,” Assange said. Assange also promised to publish about a million documents related to at least three governments before the end of 2016, saying that the organization is evolving and planning to expand its collaboration with media outlets beyond the 100 it is already working with. Assange hinted at some changes in WikiLeaks’ funding and organization. He also denied that any of WikiLeaks’ publications are aimed at damaging the image of US presidential candidate Hilary Clinton, saying that some of his statements in this regard had been misquoted.

7am – B/C Leonardo DiCaprio: climate change deniers should not hold public office. In what has been interpreted by some as an attack on Donald Trump, actor makes remarks in a speech at the White House. The actor Leonardo DiCaprio has said he thinks that those who don’t believe in climate change should not hold public office. Speaking at the White House ahead of a screening of his new documentary, Before the Flood, DiCaprio said such rejection indicated an inability to engage with the rational world. “If you don’t believe in climate change, you don’t believe in facts, and science, and empirical truths,” he said. “And, in my humble opinion, [you] should not be allowed to hold public office.”

7am – E The ugly truth: unattractive friends make you look better. Finally, scientists have tackled ‘the ugly friend effect’. If you don’t know what that is, it might be bad news … What are ugly friends for? They make you look good. How do they do that? Through the “ugly-friend effect”, wherein the proximity of your less attractive chum makes you more attractive to strangers by comparison. It’s nothing new, although the idea gained a certain prominence with the 2015 release of teen film The Duff (pictured above) – Duff being an acronym for “designated ugly fat friend”. I find the whole notion callous, superficial and unscientific. It may well be the first two, but not the third. According to a new study published in the journal Psychological Science, the ugly-friend effect is real. Study participants were asked to rate the attractiveness of faces in photographs. When they were later reshown those pictures flanked by photos of plainer folk, their original ratings went up. In addition, the less attractive photo seemed to sharpen critical faculties all round.

8am – E School Superintendent Appoints Interim Principal at Alexandria School
Change at school comes after Washington Post investigative report on practices at school regarding irregularity in the pre-testing period. (Patch) — ALEXANDRIA, VA — Seazante Williams Oliver has been appointed as the interim principal for Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology effective immediately, Alexandria City Public Schools announced Monday. Oliver, who was formerly a principal for six years in Suffolk Public Schools in Virginia, will focus on strengthening the school’s successes in math, reading and social studies, according to ACPS. She replaces former Principal Brandon Davis, who has been reassigned. The move comes after an article by The Washington Post that reported Principal Brandon Davis “allegedly told teachers this spring to call the parents of students who appeared on the brink of failing the exams to inform them of their right to opt out of the tests, according to the investigation. Three dozen parents decided to pull their children from the state Standards of Learning exams; no parents at the school had done so the previous year.”
