Rain May Have Slowed But It’s Far From Over

WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Don’t put away your umbrellas just yet.

After a long night of heavy rainfall, grounds are saturated and many local creeks have filled beyond their banks, flooding local roads.

Forecasters expect rain to continue through Saturday.

“These kind of systems are often hard to predict both because they move slowly and erratically,” Ray Martin, meteorologist with the National Weather Service said. ” Right now we do have chance of rain through Saturday and we may not completely dry out until Sunday.”

There is a flood warning in effect. for Maryland, D.C. and Virginia.

The Maryland and D.C. warning reads:

DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED RAIN ENDING ACROSS THE AREA.
STREAMS ARE STILL RISING AFTER THE EARLIER RAIN…AND A COUPLE
REPORTS OF FLOODED ROADS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED. UP TO TWO INCHES OF
RAIN HAVE FALLEN. THE FLOOD THREAT SHOULD BE DECREASING THROUGH LATE
MORNING WITH LITTLE ADDITIONAL RAIN EXPECTED. HOWEVER…MORE HEAVY
RAIN IS POSSIBLE LATER TODAY.

95. UP TO THREE INCHES OF RAIN FELL EARLIER AND STREAMS REMAIN
ELEVATED. THE FLOOD THREAT SHOULD SUBSIDE LATER THIS MORNING.
