WASHINGTON — (WMAL) If you weren’t able to make plans to head to the beach this Labor Day weekend, you may have just lucked out.

Tropical Storm Hermine, which is currently crossing Florida and heading north along the coast, is expected to swamp the Carolinas by early Saturday and bring heavy rain further north along the shore on Saturday and Sunday.

If the storm continues to track more to the East, the DC area may see little more than some showers on Sunday.

“In terms of rainfall, we may not see much,” says WMAL/Weather Channel Meteorologist Ray Stagich. “But the coastal areas, there’s a chance we could have a prolonged period of strong winds on the immediate coast with some rainfall – even some heavy rain and certainly some coastal beach erosion and coastal flooding,” he adds.

For the DC area, Labor Day Monday is shaping up to be mostly sunny with highs in the low 80’s, while the warmer weather returns late next week, with 90’s returning to the forecast by mid-week.
