6am – A/B/C Texas teacher implements no-homework policy, the Internet rejoices. (USA Today) — A second grade teacher’s no-homework policy has gone viral, thanks to a student’s mother posting about it on Facebook. Last week, mom Samantha Gallagher posted a note on Facebook from her daughter’s teacher reading: “After much research this summer, I’m trying something new. Homework will only consist of work that your student did not finish during the school day. There will be no formally assigned homework this year.” Godley Elementary School teacher Brandy Young told parents research doesn’t prove homework improves performance. So, she said, time after school is best spent eating dinner as a family, reading together, playing outside and getting children to bed early. Gallagher said her daughter is “loving her new teacher already!” The post has more than 67,400 shares on Facebook and started a healthy conversation on Reddit: I wish this was the homework policy when I was in school. The response has been overwhelmingly “supportive and positive,” Gallagher said. “Many who have responded are educators themselves wanting info from Mrs. Young on how to go about implementing the policy themselves.”

- Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel’s lunch for Clinton was a hit. Looks like a fun time was had by all at a fundraising lunch for Hillary Clinton co-hosted by Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel in Los Angeles Tuesday — that is, judging from the wacky pictures. Shortly after 5 pm ET, Timberlake tweeted pictures of himself, his wife and the Democratic presidential candidate posing for selfies that look like they were taken in an old-fashioned photo booth. “Wow,” said Timberlake in his tweet.

The actor, musician, TV host, producer, comedian — let’s just say celebrity? — also posted quotes about the power of education from Nelson Mandela, Benjamin Franklin and others. Earlier this month, viewers saw his shocked reaction when, on live TV, the “America’s Got Talent” host watched someone get shot with a flaming arrow. After a moment of stunned silence, he ran out, then assured the contestant he wasn’t on fire.
- Courteney Cox on aging: ‘I regret’ cosmetic procedures. When you’re on a survivalist adventure that involves sliding across a ravine on a wire and boiling maggots for food, you can’t really hold anything back. Maybe that’s why Courteney Cox opened up on Running Wild with Bear Grylls Monday during their venture in Ireland, which saw the actress-producer get raw on the issue of aging in Hollywood.
