SILVER SPRING, Md. – (WMAL) Montgomery County Police Monday afternoon said search teams have found a sixth body in the rubble of what used to be the Flower Branch Apartments in Silver Spring following Wednesday night’s explosion and fire. Just like the other five, the remains are being sent to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore in the hopes of identifying them.

At the same time, following the release of names and photos of 8 individuals unaccounted for, police say one of the eight has been found unharmed. 55-year-old Oscar Ochoa had recently moved out of the apartment, police say, but property management hadn’t properly updated their lease records.

Police say the six bodies found are likely included in the list of people unaccounted for, but can’t be sure until they can identify the charred remains. The search efforts continue, though investigators say the work continues to be arduous, between the extreme heat and collapse risk.
