KOKRAJHAR, India — (CNN) At least 12 people were killed when assailants attacked a market in India’s Assam state Friday, authorities say.
In addition to the fatalities, 12 others were injured in the attack, according to P.K. Bhagwati, deputy police commander.
Three attackers opened fire at the market in Kokrajhar about 11 a.m. local time, authorities said. The army killed one of the assailants and authorities are looking for the other two, the official said.
The attackers are believed to be part of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland, a Christian separatist group that has been classified as a terror group by India, Bhagwati said.
