WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Some people want a Loudoun County School Board member to resign following her arrest at a rally for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at Briar Woods High School Tuesday .
Joy Maloney was arrested, fined and released Tuesday for physically blocking people from getting inside the school.
“What she did was embarrassing, immature. It was illegal trying to block the access of free, U.S. Loudoun County citizens to go and listen for themselves to a candidate for presidential office,” said Will Estrada, chairman of the Loudoun County Republican committee.
He said it would have been fine if Maloney was peacefully protesting like others but said her behavior was unbecoming of a public official and set a bad example for the students and parents she represents.
Estrada said he has talked to several members of the school board who are disappointed in Maloney.
“I think at this point everyone’s hoping she’ll do the right thing and step down,” Estrada said.
He said he hasn’t spoken to Maloney but would be happy to talk with her.
WMAL reached out to the chair and vice-chair of the school board and Maloney for this story but didn’t hear back from any of them.
