WASHINGTON — (WMAL) The sixth SafeTrack Surge 6 began this morning, leading the red line to continuously single track between Silver Spring and Takoma Park for the next seven days.
Metro officials say the entire red line will be congested during Surge 6, and riders should give themselves an extra 45 minutes to an hour to commute.
Red line trains will operate between Glenmont and Grosvenor every 12 minutes.
Red line trains will run between Shady Grove and NoMa/Gallaudet every six minutes during rush hour and every 12 minutes at midday and evening. If you are traveling north of Grosvenor, you’ll need to transfer to a new train at Grosvenor.
Metro’s offering free shuttle buses, but officials admit that they won’t be able to accommodate the same amount of passengers as the trains.
Ride On will offer free weekday rush hour express shuttle buses between Silver Spring, Takoma and Fort Totten and between Grosvenor-Strathmore, Medical Center, Bethesda, and Friendship Heights.
Metrobus is also offering additional rush hour service on the 80, G8, P6 and Y7 busses throughout the surge.
Takoma Park will allow free parking for carpoolers at the Takoma Junction parking lot.
