WASHINGTON — (WMAL) A video obtained by CBS News shows a man believed to be Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy Karnig Ohannessian pointing a gun at people in a car in front of his house in Burke, Virginia.
“Get in the car,” he screamed. A man outside the car replied, “Pointing a gun at my friend. This is a criminal offense, so please stop it.” Ohannessian then threatened to shoot the men.
Someone called police to report the argument, but by the time police got to the home on Bestwicke Court on June 11, the alleged victims were gone.
That wasn’t the last police heard about the incident. Two days later, a 24-year-old man reported it to police.
Ohannessian was arrested, but then de-arrested after a court magistrate said there wasn’t probable cause to arrest him.
Fairfax County Police Spokesman Meg Hawkins wouldn’t say whether the magistrate had seen the video before the decision was made. She did say her office and the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office are investigating the case and figuring out whether the man thought to be Ohannessian will face charges.
The Navy did not respond to WMAL’s request for an interview.
