WASHINGTON — (CNN) The White House acknowledged Friday that the U.S. has killed between 64 to 116 civilians in drone strikes outside areas of “active hostilities” between 2009 and 2015.
President Barack Obama also signed an executive order to address civilian casualties from the strikes and clarify their use, which have been a centerpiece of his approach to combatting terrorist groups.
Several human rights groups have criticized the report’s methodology and claim the number should be much higher.
