Fairfax, VA — (WMAL) A Fairfax man wants to take a road trip from D.C. to L.A. — using the ride-sharing service Uber.
Russell Michelson, who has titled his trip’s fundraiser webpage “Take Me There: A film about the 1st cross-country Uber trip”, is raising $10,000 to chronicle his experiences with the company’s drivers.
“Whenever I take an Uber, I’m always wondering, like, ‘who are these people,'” said the 24-year-old WordPress Web Designer. “I think it’d be really cool to have a road trip film with Uber.”
Of the $10,000 Michelson is raising – a price he calls a “high amount for a short documentary that will be put online for free” – he estimates half will go to the online transportation company and its drivers.
The remaining funds raised would go to food, overnight accommodations, and film equipment, as well as a cameraman Michelson hopes to bring along.
“The thing I’m looking forward to the most is getting to know the drivers. I’ve been on a lot of long car drives in my life, and I like how it brings me closer to those i’m in the car with.”
Michelson hopes to make the Uber trip from D.C. in October. His final destination? 9245 Venice Boulevard, Los Angeles, California — so he can try his first In-n-Out burger.
“I’ve actually not seen the interior of the country,” said Michelson, “I think it’d be interesting for me and for the audience to experience the middle of the country for the first time through Uber.
