5am – A/B/C  No Fly, No Buy?

  • Trump and N.R.A. Leaders to Discuss Preventing Gun Sales to People on Terror Watch Lists. WASHINGTON — Donald J. Trump said Wednesday that people on the terror watch list should be barred from buying firearms, putting himself in the center of a gun-control debate in Congress revived by the worst mass shooting in United States history. Mr. Trump’s stance, expressed in a Twitter post, does not necessarily jibe with the positions of the Republican Party and the National Rifle Association, whose endorsement Mr. Trump frequently boasts about on the campaign trail. His tweet could be read to support measures pushed by Democrats and opposed by Republicans in Congress, reflecting the unusual nuances of the issue, which touches on public safety and civil rights beyond the Second Amendment. “I will be meeting with the N.R.A., who has endorsed me, about not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no-fly list, to buy guns,” Mr. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, wrote Wednesday morning on Twitter. His comment came three days after 49 people were killed when a gunman who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State stormed an Orlando nightclub. On the same morning, a group of Democrats took to the Senate floor in a filibuster to protest the lack of improvement in gun safety measures in recent years.
  • Filibuster Ends After GOP Agrees to Allow Gun Control Votes: Senator. Senate Democrats ended a nearly 15-hour filibuster early Thursday after Republican Party leaders reportedly agreed to allow votes on two proposed gun control measures. Sen. Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, said that a compromise had been reached. Votes would be held on whether to ban people on the government’s terrorist watch list from obtaining gun licenses and whether to expand background checks to gun shows and internet sales, he added. “We did not have that commitment when we started today,” Murphy said. The nonstop series of speeches stretched 14 hours and 50 minutes. It followed the shooting massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando. “I’ve had enough. I’ve had enough of the ongoing slaughter of innocents, and I’ve had enough of inaction in this body,” Murphy said during the filibuster which he launched at around 11:21 a.m. Wednesday. He vowed to remain on the Senate floor “until we get some signal, some sign that we can come together.” Forty senators joined Murphy, according to C-SPAN2.

5am – D         Gov. Larry Hogan says he doesn’t plan to vote for Donald Trump.

Gov. Larry Hogan (R) said emphatically Wednesday that he does not plan to vote for Donald Trump, his party’s presumptive — and divisive — presidential nominee. Although the first-term governor has repeatedly said he does not support Trump, he had never before stated whether he would vote for him in the general election. During a visit to Prince George’s County on Wednesday, Hogan answered the question directly. “No, I don’t plan to,” Hogan said when asked whether he would cast a ballot for Trump. “I guess when I get behind the curtain I’ll have to figure it out. Maybe write someone in. I’m not sure.”

5am – E         Guccifer 2.0 Documents Allegedly Reveal DNC Collusion With Clinton, Mainstream Media. A new hacker who identifies himself as Guccifer 2.0 has revealed confidential documents that point to collusion efforts between Hillary Clinton, the DNC, and the mainstream media. The documents the hacker released contain more than just the multi-pronged approach to derailing Donald Trump. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz has already acknowledged that a hacker accessed its servers. With Guccifer 2.0’s revelation, it stands to reason that this new data dump may relate to the DNC hack. So, what exactly do the documents released thus far reveal? At the very least, they reveal a coordinated effort between the DNC, Hillary Clinton, and the mainstream media to make play up Clinton’s positive’s while downplaying her negatives. It also reveals that the DNC has fed the mainstream media information and questions about Republican candidates that news anchors and reporters should ask during interviews. In a document dated May 26, 2015 — a little over a month after Clinton announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination — the DNC issued a document specifically aimed at discrediting GOP candidates by working hand-in-hand with the mainstream media. “Reporter Outreach: Working through the DNC and others, we should use background briefings, prep with reporters for interviews with GOP candidates, off-the-record conversations and oppo pitches to help pitch stories with no fingerprints and utilize reporters to drive a message.”

6am – A/B/C Is Disney Liable?

  • Disney Alligator Attack: 2-Year-Old Nebraska Boy’s Body Recovered ‘Intact.’ Lake Buena Vista, Florida (CNN)A 2-year-old boy pulled by an alligator into a lagoon near a Walt Disney World hotel has been found dead, authorities said. An Orange County dive team found Lane Graves’ body intact about 1:45 p.m., not far from where he was grabbed Tuesday night, Sheriff Jerry Demings said Wednesday. His body had only a few puncture wounds, according to a source familiar with the investigation. “Of course, the autopsy has to confirm that, but there is likely no question in my mind that the child was drowned by the alligator,” Demings said. He said the body was found in 6 feet of murky water 10 to 15 yards from where the boy was attacked. The fact that the body was found intact makes sense, said Jeff Corwin, host of “Ocean Mysteries” on ABC. “That gator came in, grabbed that boy, pulled him, the dad startled that gator, the gator let him go and then the boy drowned,” he said. Some people said a “No Swimming” sign is hardly sufficient if alligators could be lurking. Robert Vachon, who was at Disney on his honeymoon with his wife, Brianna Vachon, said from the window of the monorail the lagoon beach looked like it was in a dangerous area. “I was wondering why it’s not fenced off,” Bachon said.

6am – D         Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris delete all traces of romance on social media. (USA TODAY) –  Two weeks after her seemingly-amicable breakup with boyfriend of 15 months Calvin Harris, Taylor Swift and the DJ have erased all traces of each other on social media. Harris deleted that tweet that said he had a “huge amount of love and respect” for Swift, and reportedly unfollowed the popstar and blocked her fans.  Meanwhile, Swift took down all Instagram proof of their romance, including photos (liked by millions) of their beach getaway and anniversary celebration. And now there is a fresh batch of photos, shared by The Sun, that seem to show Swift canoodling with a new man: Loki actor Tom Hiddleston.

6am – E         Rubio says he will reconsider running for reelection. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) will reconsider his decision not to run for reelection, he told reporters Wednesday.  Rubio reopened the door to running after speaking with Florida Lt. Gov. Carlos López-Cantera, a close friend of his who is running to replace him. Sunday’s mass shooting at an Orlando nightclub that left 49 dead made him rethink his decision, Rubio said. “Obviously, I take very seriously everything that’s going on — not just Orlando, but in our country,” he said. “I enjoy my service here a lot. So I’ll go home later this week, and I’ll have some time with my family, and then if there’s been a change in our status, I’ll be sure to let everyone know.” Rubio has until next week to decide whether to enter the GOP primary for his seat.

  • Nats outlast Cubs in 12 innings, 5-4. WASHINGTON (AP) — First, Stephen Strasburg and Jason Hammel dueled to scintillating draw. Then, the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs engaged in a back-and-forth drama that stretched into extra innings. Afterward, both sides agreed: It was a game better suited for late fall than the middle of June. Jayson Werth singled in the winning run with two outs in the 12th inning, giving the Nationals a 5-4 victory Wednesday before a sellout crowd of 42,000, largest of the season in Washington. The Nationals won two of three in this showdown between the NL East and NL Central leaders.

Cue former The Tonight Show host Jay Leno, who walked onstage to big cheers and delivered a monologue of his own full of the signature blend of dad jokes and snark he brought into homes during his 20-year stint hosting the show.
