STAFFORD, VA — (WMAL)  A Stafford County sheriff’s deputy was shot several times and is hospitalized in serious condition after responding to a call for breaking and entering at a townhouse in Stafford Tuesday night.

Law enforcement officials arrested a suspect – 18-year-old Joshua Anthony Sumter (pictured above) – shortly after 5:45 Wednesday morning.  An attempted capital murder warrant had been issued for his arrest overnight.

The shooting took place on Windsor Ridge Court in the Heritage Common townhouse development.  Sumter was arrested in southern Stafford County without incident.
