5am – A/B/C  Protesters Assault Trump Supporters With Eggs, Bottles, Punches After Rally SAN JOSE, Calif. — Donald Trump supporters were mobbed and assaulted by protesters on Thursday night after the candidate’s campaign rally in California. The violence broke out after the event in San Jose wrapped up just before 8 p.m. local time (11 p.m. ET). Some Trump supporters were punched. One woman wearing a “Trump” jersey was cornered, spit at, and pelted with eggs and water bottles. Police held back at first but eventually moved in. San Jose Police Sgt. Enrique Garcia told NBC News that several protesters were arrested and one officer was assaulted in the melee. The videos below contains language some may find offensive. Lan Hoang said anti-Trump protesters stole his “Make America Great Again” hat off of his head and set it on fire as he was leaving the rally. The 24-year-old said he saw “a lot” of Trump supporters get attacked on the walk back to his car after the rally.   Protesters also smashed cars in a nearby parking structure and surrounded and taunted an elderly couple, according to Steve Tong.

6am – A/B/C Hillary Clinton’s evisceration of Donald Trump. (CNN) There’s a new Hillary Clinton in town. A speech that was billed as a major foreign policy address instead unfolded as a savage, mocking evisceration of Donald Trump Thursday as the former secretary of state adopted an aggressive new campaign persona designed to repel the unpredictable challenge posed by the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. In one of the most striking speeches of her political career, Clinton dispensed with the sober diplo-speak that has characterized her previous national security addresses and went straight for the jugular, unleashing a series of biting attacks on Trump.

Some officials worry about briefing Trump, fearing spilled secrets. (Reuters) — Some U.S. intelligence officials are concerned that Donald Trump’s “shoot from the hip” style could pose national security risks as they prepare to give him a routine pre-election briefing once he is formally anointed as the Republican presidential nominee. Eight senior security officials told Reuters they had concerns over briefing Trump, whose brash, unpredictable campaign style has been a feature of his rise as an insurgent candidate. Despite their worries, the officials said the “Top Secret” briefing to each candidate would not deviate from the usual format to avoid any appearance of bias. Most of the officials asked for anonymity to discuss a domestic political issue.

6am – D         McAuliffe’s clemency order comes under scrutiny. RICHMOND — Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) mistakenly restored the right to vote to several violent felons currently in prison or on supervised probation, as part of his sweeping clemency order, records show. Among the 206,000 felons who were awarded voting rights are some high-profile killers whose crimes shocked their small communities. Ronald R. Cloud, 68, was in prison in West Virginia for sexual assaults involving a child when he pleaded guilty in 2014 to the murder of a Fauquier County man in a three-decade-old cold case. Daniel Harmon-Wright, 36, was a Culpeper police officer when he shot a Sunday school teacher in her Jeep as the vehicle drove away.

6am – E         DC METRO:

  • Brace yourselves, commuters: Metro’s year-long maintenance blitz is set to begin
  • The work: The first major construction work will have the largest impact on Orange and Silver line riders between Ballston and Vienna and Wiehle-Reston East during two weeks of work between Ballston and East Falls Church, an area identified as a priority by the Federal Transit Administration. There will also be significantly fewer trains than usual to Stadium-Armory.
  • The round-the-clock single tracking between East Falls Church and Ballston is scheduled to run from June 4-16. Next, Metro plans to shut down the tracks on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines entirely between Eastern Market and Minnesota Avenue/Benning Road. That closure is set to run from June 18 to July 3.

7am – A         INTERVIEW — REP. TOM DAVIS — Former Virginia Congressman

  • 11th District GOP still on hunt for opponent to Connolly.  The 10-member 11th District committee now must decide whether to field another candidate in time to meet the state’s June 14 filing deadline. U.S. Rep. Gerald Connolly, a former Providence District supervisor who later chaired the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, has had an easy time of it at the polls during the three of his four congressional runs. He won 54.7 percent of the vote to Republican Keith Fimian’s 43 percent in 2008, allowing Connolly to succeed seven-term U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R).
  • McAuliffe’s clemency order comes under scrutiny.

7am – B         Video games:

  • Survey: One in three Americans over 50 plays video games regularly. WASHINGTON — The video game industry aims much of its marketing at young males, but maybe it should reach for an older demographic. An AARP survey said that 41 million Americans over 50, or one in three, play video games on a regular basis. The results of the survey, conducted by AARP and the Entertainment Software Association in D.C., said three-quarters of gamers age 50 and over play video games weekly, and four in 10 play daily. As for gamers ages 60 and above, 43 percent play video games every day. “As Gen X turns 50 and millennials raise tech-centric families, participation will only continue to expand just as games continue to evolve,” said Michael Gallagher, president of Entertainment Software Association.
  • ‘The Sims’ removes gender barriers in video game. LOS ANGELES (AP) — The creators of “The Sims” are opening up gender customization options for the first time in the long-running history of the popular life simulation video game. “The Sims” publisher Electronic Arts and developer Maxis said a free update available Thursday for “The Sims 4″ will remove gender boundaries and allow players to create virtual townsfolk — or Sims, as they’re known — with any type of physique, walk style or voice they choose. “The Sims 4″ and earlier installments of the 16-year-old series previously restricted specific clothing, hair styles and other aesthetic options to either male or female characters. EA and Maxis said over 700 pieces of content previously available to only male or female Sims will now be accessible regardless of gender in “The Sims 4″ and its various expansion packs. The studio said in a statement it wanted to “make sure players can create characters they can identify with or relate to through powerful tools that give them influence over a Sims’ gender, age, ethnicity, body type and more.”

7am – C         Protesters Assault Trump Supporters With Eggs, Bottles, Punches After Rally SAN JOSE, Calif. — Donald Trump supporters were mobbed and assaulted by protesters on Thursday night after the candidate’s campaign rally in California. The violence broke out after the event in San Jose wrapped up just before 8 p.m. local time (11 p.m. ET). Some Trump supporters were punched.

7am – D         Simon Cowell Says Having a Baby Changed His TV Judging Style. Simon Cowell made a name for himself on American TV thanks to his no-holds-barred judging style on some of our favorite shows. Still, the former “American Idol” judge said thanks to his 2-year-old son he’s softened up. Cowell told People magazine that “there’s no question when you actually have a kid, it does make you feel different because you understand how you would feel if it was your son up there.” Cowell, 56, and his girlfriend Lauren Silverman, welcomed a son named Eric in 2014. The British recording executive — who has served as a judged on “American Idol,” “The X Factor” and now “America’s Got Talent” — said he really wasn’t that negative when it came to judging singing competition hopefuls. “I think ‘X Factor’ and ‘Idol’ were edited so that I was always seen as this bad-tempered, miserable whatever — which of course I am at times,” he admitted, “but I’m not like that the whole day!”

8am – A         Paul Ryan endorses Donald Trump. Washington (CNN) House Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday said he’s voting for presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump. In an op-ed for the Janesville Gazette of Janesville, Wisconsin, Ryan — who sparked a political firestorm last month when he told CNN’s Jake Tapper he was “just not ready” to back his party’s nominee — says he is now convinced Trump will advance the Republican agenda. “I feel confident he would help us turn the ideas in this agenda into laws to help improve people’s lives. That’s why I’ll be voting for him this fall,” Ryan wrote. He added, “It’s no secret that he and I have our differences. I won’t pretend otherwise. And when I feel the need to, I’ll continue to speak my mind. But the reality is, on the issues that make up our agenda, we have more common ground than disagreement.” Late Thursday afternoon, Trump tweeted his appreciation for Ryan’s support. Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump: So great to have the endorsement and support of Paul Ryan. We will both be working very hard to Make America Great Again! 5:12 PM – 2 Jun 2016

  • Hillary Clinton’s evisceration of Donald Trump.
  • Obama Adviser Lashes Out at Fox News Amid Questions over Deleted Footage.

8am – E         Smuggling network guided illegals from Middle East terror hotbeds to U.S. border. (Washington Times) — A smuggling network has managed to sneak illegal immigrants from Middle Eastern terrorism hotbeds straight to the doorstep of the U.S., including helping one Afghan who authorities say was part of an attack plot in North America. Immigration officials have identified at least a dozen Middle Eastern men smuggled into the Western Hemisphere by a Brazilian-based network that connected them with Mexicans who guided them to the U.S. border, according to internal government documents reviewed by The Washington Times. Those smuggled included Palestinians, Pakistanis and the Afghan man who Homeland Security officials said had family ties to the Taliban and was “involved in a plot to conduct an attack in the U.S. and/or Canada.” He is in custody, but The Times is withholding his name at the request of law enforcement to protect investigations. Some of the men handled by the smuggling network were nabbed before they reached the U.S., but others made it into the country. The Afghan man was part of a group of six from “special-interest countries.” The group, guided by two Mexicans employed by the smuggling network, crawled under the border fence in Arizona late last year and made it about 15 miles north before being detected by border surveillance, according to the documents, which were obtained by Rep. Duncan Hunter, California Republican.
