WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Officials at Reagan National Airport are readying for the upcoming Safetrack operation that will temprarily close many DC metro stations in order to conduct vital trackwork.

The airport is currently working with ground transportation as well as WMATA to keep the public updated about metro station closures, and it hopes to get the information out to both employees and the public as soon as possible.

Kimberly Gibbs, a spokeswoman for Reagan National Airport, recommends that anyone arriving at or departing from the airport look into the ground transit offerred, saying passengers should “plan in advance for ground transporation options.”

Closely monitoring closures and congestion patterns in advance, she notes, can help you plan your travel. She also recommends constantly monitoring the closures so that passengers can easily plan their travel in advance.

“It’s important that people not miss their planes, trains, and automobiles,” said Gibbs.

Travel to and form the airport will encounter heavy congestion – regular metro travelers in particular will be the hardest hit – but Gibbs ensures ground transportation and planning in advance will help to ease the situation.

There will be multiple parking options at the airport, but past traffic patterns pose a likely-high volume of travel in early-mid July, limiting the number of available parking spots in onsite garages.

Gibbs recommends reserving parking online to guarantee a spot.

More information on parking reservation can be found on the airport’s website.
