5am – A/B/C `Preakness 2016: PETA demands answers in death of 2 horses at Pimlico. In a tragic start to Preakness day, two horses died and a jockey broke his collarbone in the first four races — and the country’s leading animal rights group is demanding answers. Pramedya broke down around the turn in the fourth race, tumbled to the turf as jockey Daniel Centeno was thrown to the ground. Pimlico racing officials said the 4-year-old filly owned by Roy and Gretchen Jackson’s Lael Stables was euthanized on the track after breaking her left front cannon bone. The Preakness Stakes, the second race of the Triple Crown, will be run at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist is the heavy favorite in the field of 11 horses, which includes Derby runner-up Exaggerator. In the opening race, Homeboykris collapsed and died after his victory and having his picture taken in the winner’s circle. Track officials believe the 9-year-old gelding suffered cardiovascular collapse. Immediately, PETA called for an investigation and the release of the horses’ medical records.

5am – C         Alan Young, Wilbur on ‘Mister Ed,’ dead at 96. (CNN) Alan Young, who played the hapless yet protective owner of a talking horse on the popular television comedy “Mister Ed,” has died at age 96, according to officials at the Motion Picture & Television Home in Woodland Hills, California. He died Thursday of natural causes with his children at his side, the organization said. Young also was a well-received voice actor, with appearances as Scrooge McDuck in many Disney productions and as Farmer Smurf and other characters in the 1980s-era cartoon. Young appeared on several shows before being cast as Wilbur Post on “Mister Ed,” which became one of the most popular shows of the early 1960s. One of his previous shows, “The Alan Young Show,” won a prime-time Emmy. According to a 1990 story in the Los Angeles Times, famed comedian George Burns financed “Mister Ed” and told his co-owner they should cast Young because “he looks like the kind of guy a horse would talk to.”

5am – E         Wiedefeld Shrinks Metro’s Management Ranks, Including 7 Senior Leaders. ‘Improve effectiveness and accountability’ is goal, GM says. (WAMU) — A major management shakeup is underway at Metro. General Manager Paul Wiedefeld fired 20 managers Friday, including seven senior leaders, according to a memo sent to the entire transit authority staff and obtained by WAMU 88.5. In doing so, Wiedefeld reduced the number of managers directly reporting to him, potentially streamlining Metro’s inefficient bureaucracy. “I began management restructuring by reducing my direct reports from 21 to 9, and departments are currently being realigned under the new structure. This includes streamlining management to improve effectiveness and accountability,” the memo said. “As part of this restructuring, 20 managers are being released from WMATA, including seven senior managers,” the memo said. “More than one-third are from the rail side of the house. Others are in administrative areas, including procurement, for example.”

  • EgyptAir 804 plane crash: ISIS and al-Qaeda remain silent as still ‘no credible claims’ of jihadist involvement. Islamic State and al-Qaeda remain unusually silent over claims a bomb or hijackers brought down the crashed EgyptAir plane. Both jihadist groups have a history of claiming responsibility for terror attacks within hours of blood being shed. But over 24 hours on, there has been no official confirmation from either sources affiliated with the two jihadist groups. This morning online extremists claimed on social media that the plane was brought down with a bomb by one of the two Iraqi passengers on board.
  • EgyptAir Was Aware of Threats to Security, Including One Scribbled on Plane. (NY Times) — CAIRO — In an eerie coincidence, the EgyptAir jetliner that plunged into the Mediterranean on Thursday was once the target of political vandals who wrote in Arabic on its underside, “We will bring this plane down.” Three EgyptAir security officials said the threatening graffiti, which appeared about two years ago, had been the work of aviation workers at Cairo Airport. Playing on the phonetic similarity between the last two letters in the plane’s registration, SU-GCC, and the surname of Egypt’s president, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, some workers also wrote “traitor” and “murderer.”
  • Did Paris attackers also plan EgyptAir disaster? Jihadis travelled to Charles de Gaulle airport just TWO HOURS before last year’s deadly massacre as investigators probe terror group’s ‘link to MS804 crash’ (Daily Mail) — The ISIS jihadis behind the Paris attacks stopped off at Charles De Gaulle airport just hours before carrying out their deadly massacre last November. A police source claimed that there are concerns the group had met cell members operating inside the airport and could have pre-planned the EgyptAir MS804 plane crash.  The four man terror team visited the airport at 6:20pm on 13 November. An hour later they left the airport and went on to murder 130 people on the streets of Paris.
  • Egypt sends submarine to hunt for crashed jet’s black boxes. 7am – B         2016: DEMS IN DISARRAY:

  • Clinton Laughs Off Sanders’ Better Polling Against Trump: These Polls ‘Mean Nothing to Me’ / Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton dismissed the idea Sunday that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) is more electable than her because of his better polling against Donald Trump, arguing such polls “mean nothing” at this point for the general election while Sanders has not undergone the same scrutiny she has experienced. Appearing on NBC’s Meet the Press, Clinton laughed when host Chuck Todd asked her if Sanders has a legitimate case to make to superdelegates, elected Democratic officials and prominent members of the party with disproportionate influence over the final delegate count, that he is the best candidate to beat Trump in November.
  • Bernie Sanders Says Debbie Wasserman Schultz Will Be Gone From DNC If He’s President. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) went all in on Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the head of the Democratic National Committee, on Saturday, saying he supports a primary challenger in her re-election bid for her House seat and would remove her from the DNC if elected president. Sanders has repeatedly accused the DNC, which is neutral in the Democratic primary, of favoring his rival, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “With all due respect to the current chairperson, if elected president, she would not be reappointed to be chair of the DNC.”
  • Clinton, Sanders Reminisce Over a Beer on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ If Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton were to reminisce about the long Democratic primary process over a beer, what would they say? Saturday Night Live took a stab at the conversation in the hilarious cold open to the show’s season finale Saturday night.  The sketch, with Kate McKinnon as Clinton and Larry David returning as Sanders, poked fun at Sanders’ complaints about the perceived unfairness of the state-by-state rules as well as Clinton’s ambition and troubles connecting with voters.

Among the gifts were three additional growling masks – two for Payne’s children and one for her husband.
