Fatal Crash Closes I-270 Early Thursday Morning

CLARKSBURG, MD — (WMAL) One person was killed in a crash on northbound I-270 early Thursday morning.

Police received a call at around 2:30am for a report of a disabled vehicle that came to rest in a travel lane near Rt. 121 in Clarksburg. Shortly after that, police received another call – that there had been a crash.

The driver of the disabled vehicle was killed. The driver of the car that struck the disabled car from behind was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The crash and its aftermath closed northbound I-270 for several hours, and created long backups in the southbound lanes, where rubbernecking commuters slowed down to catch a glimpse.

The investigation of the crash is continuing.
