WASHINGTON (WMAL) — Senator Ted Cruz joined the Drive at Five’s Larry O’Connor earlier this evening, arguing he is the only candidate who could win in a general presidential race.
“There are two candidates in this race who can win the nomination – me and Donald Trump” said Cruz. “There are two candidates who can win the general election – me and John Kasich.”
“There’s only one who can win both.”
The Texas Senator said that this was a “simple choice,” stating that businessman Donald Trump would not stand a chance against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“If Donald Trump is the nominee, Republicans lose the Senate, we may well lose the House, and we’ll lose the Supreme Court for a generation,” said Cruz, noting that some polls show Trump losing to Clinton by double digits in a general election.
Cruz went on to rail against the Obama administration’s foreign policies and a series of executive actions that Cruz deemed
The GOP presidential candidate advocated for a flat tax, reigining in regulations, and repealing Obamacare, all of which he said he would achieve if elected. He also argued that Obama had “effectively tied” the hands of our active duty military members.
“It is one of the most shameful things of the last seven years, is this president sending our fighting men and women into combat with rules of engagement so strict that their arms are effectively tied behind their back that they cannot fight, they cannot win, [and] they cannot defeat the enemy,” said Cruz on WMAL.
The Senator said that under a potential Cruz administration, he would use “overwhelming force” to kill the enemy before immediately we “got the heck out.”
