5am – A/B/C Ted Cruz-John Kasich Alliance Against Donald Trump Quickly Weakens. The temporary alliance between Senator Ted Cruz and Gov. John Kasich of Ohio, formed to deny Donald J. Trump the Republican presidential nomination, was already fraying almost to the point of irrelevance on Monday, only hours after it was announced to great fanfare. With the pact, the two candidates agreed to cede forthcoming primary contests to each other. Mr. Kasich would, most crucially, stand down in Indiana’s primary on May 3 to give Mr. Cruz a better chance to defeat Mr. Trump there, while Mr. Cruz would leave Oregon and New Mexico to Mr. Kasich. It appeared to be a measure of last resort, but initially it seemed like a breakthrough.
5am – D Millennials overtake Baby Boomers as America’s largest generation. Millennials have surpassed Baby Boomers as the nation’s largest living generation, according to population estimates released this month by the U.S. Census Bureau. Millennials, whom we define as those ages 18-34 in 2015, now number 75.4 million, surpassing the 74.9 million Baby Boomers (ages 51-69). And Generation X (ages 35-50 in 2015) is projected to pass the Boomers in population by 2028. The Millennial generation continues to grow as young immigrants expand its ranks. Boomers – whose generation was defined by the boom in U.S. births following World War II – are older and their numbers shrinking as the number of deaths among them exceeds the number of older immigrants arriving in the country.
5am – E Christian Carpenter Who Spent Years Building 400-Foot Noah’s Ark Replica Makes Big Announcement About the Biblical Vessel. Four years after Dutch carpenter Johan Huibers completed his fully functional, full-scale replica of Noah’s Ark — a multi-year project that followed the biblical measurements found in Genesis — the vessel is slated to travel 5,000 miles along the Atlantic Ocean from the Netherlands to Brazil. The Ark of Noah Foundation, a group based in Pasadena, California, is raising money to fund the massive trip, which will unfold during the summer of 2016 — a voyage that will be live streamed for the world to see, as the ship sails to the cities of Fortaleza and Rio de Janeiro. The ship, also known as “Johan’s Ark,” will also visit San Diego, Long Beach, San Francisco and Seattle when it later makes its way to the U.S. The goal is to raise funds to create Ark of Hope centers throughout Brazil that will help educate and provide support for the underprivileged, according to a press release.
6am – A/B Trump says he won’t tweet as president. When it comes to being a more “presidential” president, apparently tweeting is out for Donald Trump. Riffing on his latest attacks on Ted Cruz and John Kasich for “colluding” against him in a last-ditch bid to deny him the necessary number of delegates to secure the nomination and force a contested convention, Trump regaled his Warwick, Rhode Island, audience with a reference to his morning Twitter activities. “You know, I tweeted today, @realDonaldTrump. I tweet,” Trump said. He added, “Don’t worry, I’ll give it up after I’m president. We won’t tweet anymore. I don’t know. Not presidential.”
6am – C Embattled Virginia Gun Store Sues Government Officials Intent On Shutting It Down. The ownership of an Arlington, Virginia gun store filed a lawsuit last Monday against state officials and some local residents for engaging in a “conspiracy to injure another in his trade or business.” NOVA Armory, is asking for $2,101,441.14 in damages for lost revenue, physical and personal security expenses, phone number changes, time lost related to the phone number changes, and damages to the business’ reputation, The Washingtonian reported. According to reports, seven elected officials, which include Virginia state Delegates Mark H. Levine and Patrick Alan Hope and state Senators Janet Denison Howell and Barbara Favola, signed a letter on March 2 asking the store’s landlord to reconsider giving NOVA Armory a lease.
6am – D Food Portions: Our gigantic problem with portions: why are we all eating too much? We are consuming ever bigger portions on ever larger dinner plates. Food manufacturers keep pushing us to eat more. Can we learn to control our helpings?
If you want to see how inflated our portion sizes have become, don’t go to the supermarket – head to an antique shop. You spot a tiny goblet clearly designed for a doll, only to be told it is a “wine glass”. What look like side plates turn out to be dinner plates. The real side plates resemble saucers. Back in a modern kitchen, you suddenly notice how vast everything is – 28cm has become a normal diameter for a dinner plate, which in the 1950s would have been 25cm. Just because we are eating off these great expanses of china does not of course mean that we have to serve ourselves bigger portions.

- Possible humpback whale in Chesapeake Bay caught on camera. WASHINGTON — What is very likely a humpback whale has been spotted in the Chesapeake Bay. Cellphone video of the whale was captured by David Lehan of Lusby, Maryland last Friday while he was acting as first mate on a charter boat fishing for striped bass. “I wouldn’t say definitely, but it’s probably a humpback whale,” said Susan Barco, senior research scientist with the Stranding Response Program of the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. The whale was spotted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in about 80 feet of water due east of Solomons, Maryland near the mouth of the Patuxent River. “It’s pretty unusual,” Barco said of the whale being so far up the Chesapeake Bay away from the ocean. “It’s probably been a good 25 years since I remember one up that far.”

(Daily Mail) – Things are shaping up at Burger King, which is selling a new twist on their ever-popular chicken fries. On Monday, the fast-food debuted new circular-shaped chicken fries, which they are calling Chicken Fries Rings. Chicken Fries Rings, which are made with breaded all-white meat chicken, will be on offer for a limited time. The chain says the rings are the ‘optimal shape for dipping’. ‘Even though the name on our door says [Burger King], more and more of our guests are coming in for chicken,’ Alex Macedo, president of Burger King North America, said in a press release. It appears that Burger King is trying to capitalize on the success they have had since reinstating regular chicken fries on their menu last year.
7am – D/E More than 500,000 boycott Target over transgender bathroom policy. A conservative Christian activist group has gained more than half a million signatures and counting from people pledging to boycott Target over its transgender bathroom policy. The petition started by the American Family Association on Wednesday raises concerns that Target’s inclusive stance on transgender rights encourages sexual predators and puts women and young girls in danger, because “a man can simply say he ‘feels like a woman today’ and enter the women’s restroom.” The boycott has more than 517,000 signatures as of Monday afternoon, marking it as one of AFA’s most popular campaigns.
