WASHINGTON (WMAL) — A Rockville man has been charged in the murder of a six month old girl who was under his supervision at his licensed day care.

Kia Divband of Rockville was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree child abuse in connection to the death.

The girl’s parents left her at the suspect’s home that morning. He claims that, hours later, she began vomitting and turning blue while drinking a bottle.

The unresponsive infant was then taken to an area hospital where she was treated for multiple traumas, including numerous leg and rib fractures as well as retinal hemorrhages.

She died three days after her initial hospitalization on April 19.

Montgomery County homicide detectives served a search warrant on April 21st at the Little Dreams daycare center, recovering blood evidence in several locations within.

The District of Columbia’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide, as a result of multiple blunt force injuries. All of the injuries were determined to be non-accidental, inflicted traumas in various stages of healing.

Divband is currently being held in lieu of a $2,000,000 bond.
