WASHINGTON — (WMAL) A daycare provider in Oxon Hill has been arrested and charged with the death of an infant in her care in December.

Beatrice Manning, 43, was arrested on charges of first degree murder, assault, and child abuse. Manning is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

The victim, nine month old Savannah Wright, died two days after her mother left her in Manning’s care. On December 2, 2015, around 7:00 am, the baby’s mother dropped off Savannah at Manning’s home. Around 11:00 am, the investigation reveals Manning called 911 saying Savannah was lethargic and had become unresponsive. At about 5:30 that evening, detectives were called to the Children’s National Medical Center and notified the victim was suffering from a brain injury and was on life support. On December 4th, Savannah passed away.

According to a press release issued by the Prince George Police Department, “the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in the District of Columbia ruled the cause of death was blunt force injury to the head and the manner of death was a homicide. Autopsy results and the investigation reveal Savannah’s injuries occurred while in Manning’s care.”

Manning was arrested on April 5, 2016. She is charged with first degree murder, assault and child abuse. She is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
