ARLINGTON, VA (WMAL) — Metro has suspended service between Rosslyn and Ballston stations in Arlington after a reported track fire.
The Arlington Fire Department is tweeting that the fire has been extinguished, and that the scene has been turned over to WMATA for investigation.
Arlington Fire Lieutenant Sarah Marchegiani told WMAL that there was evidence of an electrical fire, discovered by Arlington firefighters and the WMATA emergency response team when they went searching for the source of smoke coming from a tunnel.
“Fire fighters and the emergency response team entered the tunnel from Clarendon metro,” said Marchegiani. “They found no active fire, however there was an electrical fire that was out on our arrival. Our units cleared the track bed and started cleaning up.”
Light smoke came from the tunnel, causing officials to shut down service between Rosslyn and Ballston. The fire department activity shut down Wilson Boulevard at N. Highland Street in Arlington for approximately an hour as crews arrived on scene.
As of 10:37am, WMATA tweeted that there was shuttle service available between the stations for passengers as their investigation at Clarendon continues.
