WASHINGTON (WMAL)– The New York Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez– better known as A-Rod– will retire after the 2017 season, when his contract expires.

“I won’t play after next year,” the third baseman told ESPN.com. “I’ve really enjoyed my time. For me, it is time for me to go home and be [a] dad.”

Rodriguez’s career has been marked by controversy over his use of performance-enhancing drugs.
