WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Bus, anyone?

Metrobus is adding service Wednesday where it can in an effort to do the impossible – to make up for the loss of Metrorail.

Parking is free in Metro lots for those who carpool or ride the bus on Wednesday.

Local and regional bus operators are also adding service where they can, but on short notice, that will be a problem. In a note on its website, Montgomery County Ride-On points out that nearly all of its buses are already in use during rush hour periods, but it will supplement where possible with what few extra buses it has.

The Fairfax Connector system has added a limited emergency shuttle to the Pentagon, and the DC Circulator has added.additional service on three routes – Georgetown to Union Station, Woodley Park to McPherson Square and Dupont Circle to Rosslyn. Service will be free.

Virginia Railway Express and Maryland Commuter Rail are running on normal schedules. MARC has added extra cars to some of its trains on the Camden and Brinswick lines.

Uber says it will put a cap on surge pricing, but warns that service may be delayed as it expects a crush of customers. Lyft is offering new customers $20.00 off their first ride if the use the promo code METROHELP.

And finally – it’s a beautiful day for a bike ride. Capital Bikeshare is offering free 24-hour memberships to all, but usage fees still apply.
