A bomb threat at McLean High School has caused administrators to send students home for the day.

Fairfax County Police spokesman Don Gotthardt said that police, fire, and rescue units were called at approximately 8:08am for a reported bomb threat by administrators.

Gotthardt did not know how the threat was received by McLean administrators, but that it was communicated with them directly.

After conferring with police, administrators decided to evacuate students and staff to the football field, and soon after decided to send students home. Walking students have already been sent home, while other students are awaiting buses to transport them home.

School security guards and responding police officers performed a “cursory search” of the building, though further units have been called to the school, including a bomb-sniffing dog.

“Not prompted by anything found, or anything else, but just as our standard operating procedure, we have called our [Explosive Ordinance and Demolition Team], and we’ll be in the process of putting a bomb dog in the building to do a more thorough search,” said Gotthardt.

Fairfax County Schools could not be reached for comment at this time.
