(CNN) â Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Monday he was poised to do well in South Carolina and Michigan, casting himself as someone who has been underestimated by Washington pundits throughout the race.
âThey havenât been right about me from the beginning, remember they said he wouldnât get in, he wouldnât have the money, he wouldnât be able to make the debates, heâll have to drop out before New Hampshire.
Now itâs that he doesnât have the infrastructure in South Carolina,â Kasich told CNNâs Alisyn Camerota on âNew Day.â âYes, I do. We will do well in South Carolina.â
Kasich is one of several Republicans running in the âestablishment lane,â seeking a ticket out of New Hampshire to the next states. Heâs polling in the low teens and jockeying with Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz for second place in the Granite State behind front-runner Donald Trump.
The Ohio governor has invested heavily in New Hampshire â he hosted his 100th town hall in the state last week â but he promised he has also been staffing up in other states like South Carolina and Michigan.
âWeâre going to spend a lot of time in Michigan, we think thatâs a very important state for us,â Kasich said. âAnd, you know, we can chew gum and walk at the same time.â
