ADAMS MORGAN — (WMAL) If your Christmas list includes vapes, bongs, pipes, and “Magic Butter,” you’re in luck. Capitol Hemp’s business is picking up as Christmas nears.
“We deal in anything related to the cannabis industry. We sell anything from water pipes, or bongs which you can actually call them now, to Magic Butter machines, for making edibles,” said General Manager John Brassfield. “Pretty much you name it, we’re an adult wonderland. It’s so much fun.”
This is the first holiday season post-legalization for Capitol Hemp, which re-opened in August after the previous shop was raided by D.C. Police in 2012, prior to legalization. That means more curious and intrigued customers, Brassfield said.
“People are actually more willing to come in and purchase items directly related to smoking cannabis,” he said. And the stigma is wearing off too. They no longer have to throw out customers that refer to water pipes as “bongs”.
“I’ve got everything from a $6.99 handheld pipe to a $420 hand-blown Sherlock pipe,” Brassfield said. A big holiday seller – the Magic Butter Machines, because “people are doing a lot of baking this time of year.
Between the myriad pieces of equipment, hemp clothing and edibles at the ready, Brassfield said, “pretty much anything that you can imagine in the cannabis industry, you can find it here.”
It still remains illegal to buy or sell marijuana in the District, but it is legal for anyone 21 or over to possess up to two ounces or six plants.
