WASHINGTON — (WMAL) It looks like wins aren’t the only thing piling up for the Washington Redskins. Ticket prices are up 75% as the team looks to land its first playoff birth since 2012 this Saturday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“This game a few weeks ago looked pretty meaningless for both teams,” said Chris Lyden, Content Analyst at secondary market ticket dealer SeatGeek. “All of the sudden its become a huge match-up with major playoff implications.”
Lyden says that typically, the best time to purchase Redskins tickets is during the last 48 hours prior to a game when secondary market suppliers mark down their excess tickets in an effort to “get something instead of nothing” for tickets that will otherwise be worthless once the game is over. This week, however, Lyden says playoff implications and Christmas shopping are keeping the demand for tickets high.
“Typically I would say wait until the day before a game to buy tickets,” said Lyden. “This case is unique in that it might be better for fans to buy sooner and ensure that they get the seats they want.”
Lyden says ticket prices for Redskins games have jumped up 75% since the Redskins last loss against the Dallas Cowboys, December 7 on Monday Night Football. Since then the team has put together back-to-back wins against the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills, catapulting the top of the NFC East and now in control of their own playoff destiny.
Lyden says that for a week like this, where cheap tickets will be hard to come by, the best valued ticket will not be the cheapest.
“The cheapest pair of tickets we have on our site right now are for $175,” says Lyden. “But for less than $100 more you can sit lower level, along the sidelines. There are some good deals to be had if you’re willing to spend just a little bit more.”
