The most unequivocally favorable part of the comments the Russian leader made Thursday to a scrum of reporters after his annual year-end news conference was about the Republican presidential aspirant’s claims that he wants to improve relations with Russia. “He says that he wants to move to another, closer level of relations. • US military to limit media access to Guantanamo Bay prison. MIAMI (AP) — New limits are being imposed on media access to the detention center at the U.S. base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the commander of the military’s Southern Command said Thursday, outlining rules that will limit what journalists can see and how often they can visit the already highly restricted site. Journalists will be allowed to visit the center on tours that will be organized once per quarter, lasting no more than a day, and they will no longer be able to visit inside the two detention center camps where a majority of the 107 current prisoners are held, Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly said in an interview with The Associated Press.

Guantanamo Bay is being used to detain what the US government calls “enemy combatants” The Pentagon plans the transfer of 17 Guantanamo Bay detainees in the coming weeks – a move that would cut the US prison’s population to 90, reports say. US media quote officials as saying Defence Secretary Ashton Carter has already told Congress about the move. It would reportedly be the largest number of detainee transfers in a single month since 2007.
  • Ex-Guantanamo detainee now an al Qaeda leader in Yemen. Ibrahim al Qosi, an ex-Guantanamo detainee, now serves as a leader and spokesman for al Qaeda in Yemen. In July 2010, Qosi plead guilty to charges of conspiracy and material support for terrorism before a military commission. His plea was part of a deal in which he agreed to cooperate with prosecutors during his remaining time in US custody. Qosi was transferred to his home country of Sudan two years later, in July 2012.

The voters have come to believe that their own party’s elites are not only uninterested in defending their interests, but — as with this legislation and fast tracking the president’s international trade deal — Republican voters would not be wrong to conclude that their own Republican leaders are hostile to them, just as Democrat leaders are hostile to Republican voters.”

The image, which the actress posted from her Hawaiian family vacation, shows her 20-month-old son, Otis, from behind, nude except for the hat. When Wilde posted the picture on Monday, she included the caption “Naked Cowboy.” But Wilde has since added a disclaimer to her photo: “Apparently unsuitable for those unaware that humans have butts.” The lighthearted addition is in response to some commenters who felt the photo was inappropriate, at least for online sharing. “This is not a picture for social media, because unfortunately there are perverted people out there and these pictures could end up on child pornography websites,” wrote one user.
