WASHINGTON (WMAL) — There may be more traffic than usual midday Tuesday in the Gaithersburg, Derwood and Olney areas of Montgomery County , as a funeral is held for Officer Noah Leotta. A drunk driving suspect struck and killed the 24-year-old officer during the department’s Holiday Alcohol Task Force deployment on Dec. 3.

Services will be held at the Covenant Life church on Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood.

“Hundreds of people will be attending this funeral,” says Captain Paul Starks with Montgomery County Police.

The funeral is scheduled to start at 11 am, but he says people will arrive up to three hours early.

“With that number of people coming to the funeral just getting them into the parking lot, getting them seated and lined up outside takes a lot of time,” Starks told WMAL.

Individual officers with a personal connection to Leotta will be at the funeral, along with many other department officers as well as the honor guards and color guards representing departments in Maryland and along the East coast.
