ASHBURN, VA — (WMAL) The Washington Redskins are going international next season.
The NFL announced Wednesday that the Redskins will play as a visiting team against the Cincinnati Bengals on at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, October 30th, and there’s a chance they could also play in London the previous week, depending on the outcome of the 2015 season.
The St. Louis Rams will be hosting a game on Sunday, October 23rd against the NFC East team that finishes in the same division rank as the Rams. For example, if the Rams finish in 3rd place in the NFC West, they’ll play the NFC East team that finishes in 3rd place. If that happens to be the Redskins, they would become the first NFL team to play in London in consecutive weeks.
Teams that play in London typically have the week following the game as their bye week for the season, so Redskins fans can pencil in the weekend of November 5-6, 2016 as an off-week for the team.
In addtion to the Redskins/Bengals and Rams/NFC East games, the NFL announced that Jacksonville Jaguars will host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, October 2nd. The times for all of the London games will be announced at a later date.
The Redskins have previously played once outside the United States – a 2011 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Toronto. The Skins had previously played preseason games in London in 1992 and in Osaka, Japan in 2002.
