5am – A/B/C President Obama’s Hollande Meeting / Tensions with Russia

5am – D         NBC agrees to give time to 4 Republican candidates. NEW YORK (AP) — NBC agreed Monday to give four Republican presidential candidates free time on affiliates in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina after they complained Donald Trump unfairly benefited from appearing as “Saturday Night Live” host earlier this month. The network said John Kasich, Mike Huckabee, James Gilmore and Lindsey Graham each will get about 12 minutes of time to tout their candidacies during prime time on Friday and Saturday, and during this week’s “Saturday Night Live.” Republican George Pataki also had complained, but the network did not announce an agreement with his campaign. The candidates will get the time on each of the 18 NBC stations in those three states, where early GOP nominating caucuses or primaries are being held.

5am – E         Pentagon Emails show DOD analysts told to ‘cut it out’ on ISIS warnings; IG probe expands. Analysts at U.S. Central Command were pressured to ease off negative assessments about the Islamic State threat and were even told in an email to “cut it out,” Fox News has learned – as an investigation expands into whether intelligence reports were altered to present a more positive picture. Fox News is told by a source close to the CENTCOM analysts that the pressure on them included at least two emails saying they needed to “cut it out” and “toe the line.”

6am – B         Report: Emails Show Politico’s Mike Allen Offered Chelsea Clinton ‘No-Risk’ Interview. A smoking gun is always a nice thing to have, but it’s not like we need one to prove once and for all that Politico is dedicated to electing Hillary Clinton president. Nevertheless, through a Freedom of Information request, Gawker claims to have found a smoking gun – a series of emails from Politico honcho Mike Allen promising Chelsea Clinton a “no risk … no surprises … something she would like” interview where all the questions would be agreed upon in advance.

6am – C         Clinton promises never to say ‘illegal immigrants’ again. Hillary Clinton addressed criticism of her use of the phrase “illegal immigrants” in a Facebook chat hosted by the Spanish-language television network Telemundo on Tuesday. The Democratic presidential frontrunner said it was a “poor choice of words” and vowed not to use the same language in the future. Clinton used the term at a campaign event in New Hampshire earlier this month when she was asked her thoughts on securing the border with Mexico to prevent undocumented immigrants from coming over. She responded by referring to her support for a border fence as a member of the U.S. Senate from January 2001 until early 2009. “Look, I voted numerous times when I was a senator to spend money to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in. And I do think you have to control your borders,” Clinton said. Clinton’s comments drew criticism from pro-immigration advocates who prefer the term “undocumented immigrants.” She was asked about the phrase in the Facebook chat on Tuesday by Jose Antonio Vargas, an activist whose group is mounting a campaign called “#WordsMatter” to get presidential candidates to promise not to use the phrase “illegal immigrants.” “On behalf of the organization I founded, Define American, and the 11.7 million undocumented immigrants in this country — including myself — I am asking all the presidential candidates to recognize that #wordsmatter by committing to not using the term ‘illegal’ when referencing the undocumented population. Will you make that commitment?” Vargas asked. Clinton agreed to stop saying “illegal immigrants” and pointed to her support for immigration reform.

At a Bernie Sanders rally in Atlanta Monday, Killer Mike gave a rousing speech welcoming Sanders to the city. The rapper and activist said he had no desire to return to the Reagan years or have America elect its own Margaret Thatcher, before giving Sanders a ringing endorsement. “Make sure that wherever you go, you take the name, the ideas, the philosophies and the ideology of Bernie Sanders and you make sure when you leave they are on fire, because they have ‘felt the Bern,'” he said.

8am – A         Banning carry-on bags could make boarding process 71% faster, strategist says. An op-ed in an issue of this week’s Boston Globe posits the brave thought “What if we did away with carry-on bags on flights entirely?” Devin Liddell, the founder and brand strategist behind Poppi, the conceptual airline, wrote an open letter to the world, essentially telling us “You’re doing it wrong!” According to Liddell, eliminating carry-on bags would make the boarding process 71% faster. A flight that takes an hour to board with carry-ons would take just 18 minutes without. Liddell and his team have garnered plenty of attention recently by rethinking air travel, designing a hypothetical airline from the wheels up. (And for an airline that doesn’t actually exist, Poppi sure does manage to stay in the news). The Poppi team focused on how to improve a plane’s modernity and convenience while maximizing passenger pleasure. Unsurprisingly, one of the first bottlenecks to be tackled was the boarding process. That, and shrinking overhead bins back to their original size, a throwback to the golden age of air travel when bins were used to store mostly hats. Liddell explains: “In the boarding model that we used, fedora bins would increase the speed of boarding up to 71 percent. It’s a huge difference in how fast people could get on and off the airplane.”

8am – E         Entertainment News:

  • Kevin Bacon To Star In & Exec Produce ‘Tremors’ TV Reboot. A TV reboot of the 1990 cult classic film Tremors is in the works from Universal Cable Prods and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Prods., with the original pic’s star Kevin Bacon attached to reprise his role. Bacon also is exec producing and Andrew Miller is on board to pen the adaptation. Coming off his role on Fox’s The Following, Bacon would return after 25 years to the role of Valentine McKee and the town of Perfection. The cult film about giant man-eating worms, produced by UCP film sibling Universal Pictures, spawned four direct-to-video sequels. Bacon was only in the original pic. It also generated a TV spinoff called Tremors: The Series, which aired for one season on what was then the Sci Fi Channel in 2003. The project falls under Blum’s microbudget deal with UCP inked earlier this year. No network is attached yet, but UCP says multiple bidders are interested in the project.
  • John Stamos pleads no contest to DUI. (CNN) Actor John Stamos entered a no contest plea Tuesday to one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of a drug, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said. The 52-year-old actor known for his roles on “Full House” and “ER” did not appear in court. He entered the plea through his attorney and was immediately sentenced to three years of summary probation, Deputy District Attorney Daniel Novey said. A spokesman at the district attorney’s office declined to elaborate on the kind of substance involved because it was not discussed in court. Pleading no contest means the defendant neither disputes or admits to the charges while allowing the court to treat the plea as a criminal conviction.
