WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Intelligence has come in that some of the terrorists who carried out the attacks in Paris entered France as part of the refugee stream coming in through Greece. This has stirred up discussion on what the U.S.’s move will be in the Syrian refugee crisis.

President Obama has said he is committed to bringing in at least 10,000 Syrian refugees, generating concerns in the states of what possible threat this may pose to U.S. homeland security.

As a result, there have been 27 states that have declared refugees not welcome, with their governors protesting their admission.

Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe has now stated that he believes Syrian refugees should be allowed to enter and resettle in the Commonwealth.

Meanwhile Virginia delegate Tim Hugo, in an interview with Brian and Larry on WMAL’s Mornings on the Mall, stated he thought the governor’s decision was dead wrong.

Hugo and other Virginia delegates will be introducing legislation that will ban any money from the state of Virginia to go towards the resettlement of Syrian refugees in the state.

“We can feel sorry for these folks and we do,” said Hugo. “We can have empathy. But our first obligation is to protect Americans and protect Virginians.”

Hugo said the governor’s actions could potentially put the citizens of Virginia at risk.

“We all have a responsibility, whether it’s federal, state or local. The FBI said there are ISIS investigations in every state of the Union.” said Hugo.

“I urge Governor McAuliffe to not do the political, Democratic thing, but to do the right thing for Virginia. You want to be safe and not sorry.”

Hugo suggested taking a 2-year pause in letting in Syrian refugees to the state.
