WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced Monday that after a five-month battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma he is now 100 percent cancer-free.
“With Thanksgiving next week I want you all to know that I truly am incredibly thankful to be standing here today,” said Hogan. “I’m very thankful to say that as of today I am completely, 100 percent cancer-free, and in complete remission.”
Hogan is quick to caution that he is not “cured”, and although he is finished with chemotherapy treatment, there is still a chance the cancer could return down the line. He is taking every precaution necessary to ensure that does not happen.
“Over the next few months, I expect to be getting stronger everyday. My energy level will continue to increase, swelling will go down. My hair will start to grow back. And god willing I’ll be back to 110 percent before you know it.”
The announcement was a rare bright spot on a news day dominated by the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday. Several governors have announced whether they would or would not be accepting Syrian refugees. Hogan says he has yet to make the decision.
“Our internal group has been sitting down looking at the options. We’re going to make a very reasoned and careful decision about what we will do in Maryland.”
