WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Douglas Hughes, the man who flew a gyrocopter from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to the U.S. Capitol in April, will plead guilty at his next court appearance on November 20th.
Hughes flew through extremely restricted airspace over the National Mall and landed right outside the Capitol.
The mailman from Florida had a stack of letters with him that he planned to deliver to members of Congress, before being arrested by Capitol Police immediately after landing.
According to Hughes, the stunt was designed to draw attention to the influence of big money in politics.
He faces six charges, including operating a gyrocopter without a license.
He could serve up to 9 and 1/2 years in prision if convicted of all charges.
