WOODBRIDGE — (WMAL) Status quo won the day in Prince William County.
Incumbent Prince William Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart, who enjoyed a 4 – 1 advantage in campaign financing, easily beat Democrat challenger Rick Smith to win a third term in office.
Voters also rewarded their longtime incumbent county prosecutor with another term. Democrat Paul Ebert, who has served as Prince William’s Commonwealth’s Attorney for near 50 years, squeaked past Republican challenger Mike May to win a 13th term in office.
Ebert has successfully argued a dozen death penalty cases, including that of DC sniper John Muhammad. He also prosecuted the notorious penis-cutting case involving John Wayne Bobbitt and his estranged wife, Lorena.
At 78, Ebert says this will be his last term in office. But he’s said that before.
